4 - 6 Book Club

My Higher Shelf

Give the gift of reading throughout the year!

A fantastic curated selection of our favourite picture books for ages 4 to 6 years. Over the course of the year a book will be posted out at the beginning of every second month. Jan, March, May, Jul,  Sept and Nov.

Ruby's Worry:

This is a truly, excellent book for a worried or anxious child. It expresses in a wonderful and simple way how worries can grow if not shared. One of my favourite picture books this year.

The Lion Inside:

This is a brilliant, fun, rhyming book with a great message. It teaches us that we don't need to roar or to shout to find our true voice and there is a mouse and lion inside of us all

Perfectly Norman:

I am utterly in love with this book. The story, the illustrations, everything. Norman tries to hide his wings to be 'normal' but instead becomes miserable.  It's a beautiful book on one of my favourite themes...being yourself!

The Koala Who Could:

Great rhyming story and vibrant illustrations that jump off the page. A good book for helping children (and adults too ; ) understand that trying new things isn't necessarily bad.

The Squirrels Who Squabbled:

As always the illustrations are fantastic, bright and energetic. The message is funny and clear. As it says above, perfect for competitive kids and squabbling siblings.

The Big Bad Mood:

Brilliant and very funny book about George and his tantrum. At first, the tantrum is fantastic fun but after a while George is not sure. Have you ever seen a tantrum have a tantrum? Great for little ones who have a quick temper.
